Filter 7: Digital Technology and a New German Makeover Show?
Digital technology gets the headline bill in this month’s edition of Filter, with Camco and DiGiCo taking centre stage. The digital mixer has truly arrived and is here to stay by the look of all the ‘old school’ converts it’s winning over, check out the DiGiCo articles to see just how big an impact the DiGiCo product range is making. Also, Camco release a little card that threatens to replace just about every expensive system controller and whilst we are talking things German, we deviate to the good old-fashioned copper cable, which is getting a “German Roadie-Eye for a Signal Cable Guy” makeover. Yes, our sense of humour could also do with a makeover!
Invisible speakers by Quest Engineering put in an appearance and this month’s chapter of Birth of the Array pulls apart the loudspeaker/box/air interface while proving that there’s no substitute for cubic inches (of air). As always, feel free to comment on anything you read.

The Birth of The Array: Part 04
Part four in our continuing series, The Birth of the Array, takes a look at the engine of any speaker system; its loudspeakers. It is the interface between the electro-magnetic engines (loudspeaker) and the surrounding air that determines how sound will be generated and propagated. Like a big engine poorly matched to a gearbox and suspension system (almost any 70s American car), performance will suffer. Let’s find out how to use all those ‘cubic inches’ to get a 10 dB increase on the ‘satisfaction unit’ scale. Without further hesitation, here is Birth Part Four… |
